Before we get started on your Color Palette Index, an important consideration is the paper color you are printing on. This makes a difference in the final color result. For my scrapbooks, I print most often on acid free Ultra Bright White, Natural White (a creamy off-white) and Woodstock in either Cover or Writing Stock. They are part of the Environments brand, available at Kelly Paper. I also print on acid free vellum, even the velum with soft patterns such as stripes. Collect a sampling of the papers you would most likely use to print clipart or backgrounds and print a color sample index on each color, then slip it into sheet protectors in your Leaf Collection Log.
In case you haven't already placed the Outline and Fill Menus on your desktop, now would be a good time. In the Tool Menu click on the Outline Tool (the pen tip), this opens the Menu. Go to the left side and on the gray part click, hold and drag the menu to above the horizontal ruler. This will place it on the desk top where it will always be open and ready. Do the same with the Fill Menu (the tipped bucket).
Now they will be very handy to work with!

7. Serious About Color
We will be using your Personal Color Palette placed on the Corel Desktop. If your Personal Color Palette is not on the Corel Desktop see Create a Personal Color Palette 4 A - D. Or if have not created your color palette, see Create a Personal Color Palette.
With the top left tile Selected, right click on the top color. Click to Select the next tile to the right, right click on the next color either down or to the right depending on where you have decided to keep your palette on the desktop and whether you are using columns or rows (the shape you stretch the palette to will determine which way Corel will order them). Continue to select the next tile over then right click on the next color. Work your way through your entire Color Palette.
An important word about Saving your work.
Save your work periodically (In the Options Menu click Save As), Name these files Personal Color Palette 1, 2, 3, etc. This way your original black color palette will be available for future color palettes.
5. Label Each Colored Tile
Start at the beginning of your Color Palette Index, with the first tile. Click to select it. Notice that in the lower right of your screen it says Outline and has the name of the color of the tile you just selected. You will be referring to these name/numbers for each tile.
Choose and prepare your text font, size (a small one) and center justification (see D#11). When you are finished click the arrow at the top of the Tools Menu.
Change your viewing screen to make it easier to see by going to the Options Menu, click on the arrow next to the box that says 100%. Click on 400%. Using the arrows on the scroll bars find your way to the top left corner of the page.
Click to Select the first tile. Look at the color name, use only the number. For instance if it is from the Pantone Matching System - Coated palette, and the color is Pantone 420 CVC, only use the number 420 to label the tile. The Trumatch system will have a number that looks like this - 34 - D2. That's all you need.
On the Tool Menu, click the Text Tool (the letter A).
Click under the first tile in the center. Type the number name of the color sample, then hit enter. Now type 1 - 1. This indicates the position of the color on the desktop palette - Column or row 1, color 1. The next will be 1 - 2, Column or row 1, color 2.
Now click the Arrow Tool again. Click to select the second tile. Check the number name of the color. Click the Text Tool. Click under the second tile in the center. Type the number name and position on the desktop palette as you did with the first color. Continue to label the entire palette.
6. Print your Color Palette Index
Choose the paper you want to print on. Remember you may want to print the whole color palette on white AND off-white, or a color you would most often use.
Click on the Arrow Tool. Click Print.
Place your Color Palette Index in sheet protectors in your Leaf Collection Log.
7. Serious about Color!
If you are truly serious about color as I am, and want to hand pick all of your Personal Color Palette from the printed page, then do the following.
Making a Master Palette
Making a Master Palette Making a Master Palette
On the Pulldown Menu click Window. Click Color Palettes. Click Color Palette Browser. Click Palette Editor. Click New Palette (page icon). Type the name of the palette you want a sample of, for instance Trumatch Palette. Click Save.
Click Add Color. Click the Fixed Palettes Tab, Click the arrow to find the Trumatch Palette, click it. On the Color Strip scroll up to the very top. Hold the shift key down and click on the first color on top in the window, continue to hold the shift key and click on the bottom color showing. This will select all the colors showing. Click Add to Palette. Go to the arrow at the bottom of the color strip and click it. This will bring up the next set of colors. Using the shift key, select all the colors and add them to the palette. Continue until you have gone through the entire palette, (I told you you have to be Serious About Color to do this one!!)
Add new palette to a Color Index
Place the entire Trumatch Palette on the desktop (see Create a Personal Color Palette, 4. A-D). In this case you may want to have the palette on the right scroll bar and click on the bottom arrow to scroll through the colors in one long column. Open your original black and white Personal Color Palette Master. Click Save As, and type "Trumatch 1" and Save. Each time you need an additional page, go to the Master, then Save As and number them consecutively. You may want to create a new Master, just for this colossal job - make the tiles 6. x 6. and make nine rows of nine tiles per page. With this size I had 25 pages filled for the Trumatch Palette. From there I narrowed my personal palette down and used the other Master to make four pages of eight rows of eight tiles.
Click on the upper left tile on the first page to Select it, right click on the first color on the palette. Move to the next black tile to the right and Select it. Right click on the next color down on the palette. Continue to add each color to the palette. This will take quite a long while. Do not label right now. As you fill each page, Save then print it and number each printed page. Open the master, Save As a new Palette Index page - Trumatch 2, Trumatch 3.
When you have filled, saved and printed all the pages, go to the first page and start choosing your colors. Circle the ones you choose. When you have chosen all of your colors, do the following.
Take each page one by one and open the file that goes with it. For example Trumatch 1, on the open page click on each tile that you have circled, in the lower left the color number will appear. Write this number under the tile on the printed page. This way the only labeling you do on the master are the ones you have chosen for your palette.
Once you have labeled all of your chosen colors, create a new Color Palette from the circled ones in the Palette Editor, by scrolling to each of the labeled numbers and adding them to your new Color Palette "(Your name)'s Personal Color Palette." Then create an index for it, label it and print. I know this sounds like a lot of work, but I've done it several times. Be sure to save the master index (maybe put it in your Leaf Collection Log) in case you want to search for another color. If you change printers, print a new master index. The colors will print differently from printer to printer.
